Official Answer
Summary
The level up process for a character is described in detail on page 63 and referenced on page 62. It can only be performed during the Outpost Phase. Here are the steps:
-
Add Ability Card:
- Add one new ability card to your pool.
- The card must match your class and be of a level equal to or lower than your new level.
- This increases your pool of available cards for scenario selection, but does not increase your maximum hand size.
-
Increase Hit Points:
- Increase your maximum hit point value.
- The new value is indicated in red below your new level on your character mat.
-
Gain Perk Mark:
- Gain one new perk mark.
- Mark one box on the perk list on the right side of your character sheet and resolve any changes to your attack modifier deck immediately.
Additional Notes
- Leveling up has an experience requirement, but not an experience cost (page 62).
- If your character’s level is lower than half the current prosperity level (rounded up), you may level up without meeting the experience requirement, even multiple times, as long as your level does not exceed half the current prosperity level (rounded up). After leveling up this way, set your experience total to match the requirement for your new level (page 62).
- Leveling up cannot be done during a scenario or between scenarios unless the party returns to Frosthaven for an Outpost Phase (page 63).
